With a choking heart I read this in the Latest BMJ about Chocolates
” Chocolate is rich in flavonoids, which have anti-platelet, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects. Even so, the idea that eating chocolate would protect against heart disease was always likely to be wishful thinking. An analysis of data from the Women’s Health Initiative will bring chocolate lovers down to earth (Am J Clin Nutrdoi:10.1093/ajcn/nqy073). For 13 years, the study followed more than 80 000 women who were past menopause, and found that those who ate chocolate were no less likely to develop heart disease or stroke than those who never touched the stuff.”
Just could believe my eyes because at least three past systematic reviews and meta-analysis (see below) found significant prospective inverse associations between chocolate intake and cardiovascular disease risk. Evidence from these meta-analyses suggests that such inverse associations may only apply to elderly individuals or those with pre-existing major chronic disease.
Can you see I had all the evidence that I needed to keep on eating chocolates as even my age was a factor that supports solid evidence.
I was so furious about this latest research when it struck me it does not matter – I can go on eating chocolates as usual
The first one to answer correctly will get a CHOCOLATE on Monday.
Have a fantastic weekend
