The Internet of Things (IoT) – digitizing the physical world – has received enormous attention. Simply put IoT are billions of physical devices around the world that are now connected to the internet and collecting and sharing data. These include anything from a pill to and aeroplane – cell-phones, wrist watches, washing machines, street lamps, coffee machines, ATM machines, components any machine. Ref-ZDNET
Connecting devices to the internet adds another level of intelligence to the otherwise dumb devices enabling these to communicate with each-other without an human being involved merging the digital and physical worlds.
Even now in 2018, majority of the people may have not heard IoT that Kevin Ashton coined in 1999. However the majority of the people even in Sri Lanka maybe using an IoT from 5-10 year back – the ATM machine which came into public use between 1970-1980. By 2008 there were more objects connected to the internet than human beings and by 2017 there were 4.9 billion IoT (Ref-17 Things)
